With practice starting, the Trojans are hard at work training for their first meet on the first of September. The Paradise Valley swim team is in preparation to have another successful season.
Captains Jaci Maggio and Sean Deonise, have both been a part of the PV swim team since their freshman year.
Jaci started swimming in sixth grade with the hope of getting in better shape. She said, “The best thing about being in swim is the team.” She enjoys the friendships and bonds she makes from being a part of the swim team. Her personal goal for the season is to make it to state.
Sean joined swim his freshman year after his parents encouraged him to join a sport. Sean stated his favorite thing about being on swim is “The team atmosphere as well as spending time with the team.” He went on to say, “The hardest thing about swim is persisting through the hard practices.” This season Sean is looking forward to having a great time with the team.
Over the course of their three month season, the Trojan swimmers made a team goal of having everybody improve from the beginning of the season to the end.
This year the swim team is being joined by Mrs. Stiles to help coach and bring all that she can to help the team. She was a swimmer in high school and a lifeguard for several years. She has also previously taught water aerobics and swim lessons.
Make sure to come out and support your swim team as they make a splash this 2016 season. The first swim meet is September 1 at PV Park Pool against Veritas and North Canyon at 4:00 p.m.
